When using ferric pyrophosphate raw materials in a compounded manner, the following regulatory standards mainly need to be complied with:
I. General Standards
"National Food Safety Standard - General Rules for Compound Food Additives" (GB 26687-2011): It stipulates the definition, naming, basic requirements, sensory requirements, control of harmful substances, and labeling of compound food additives. When using ferric pyrophosphate in a compounded manner, it is necessary to ensure that it does not harm human health, and the dosage should be reduced as much as possible on the premise of achieving the expected effect. The food additives used should comply with GB 2760 and relevant regulations and have a common scope of use. There should be no chemical reactions and no new compounds should be produced during the production process.
"National Food Safety Standard - Standard for the Use of Food Additives" (GB 2760): It stipulates the principles for the use of food additives, the varieties of food additives allowed to be used, the scope of use, and the maximum usage amount, etc. When using ferric pyrophosphate in a compounded manner, its scope of use and dosage limit should comply with the relevant provisions in GB 2760.
II. Standards for Ferric Pyrophosphate
"National Food Safety Standard - Food Nutritional Fortifier Ferric Pyrophosphate" (GB 1903.16-2016): It is applicable to the food nutritional fortifier ferric pyrophosphate prepared by using sodium pyrophosphate and ferrous sulfate (or ferric trichloride) as raw materials through reaction synthesis, filtration, washing, and drying processes. This standard stipulates its technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, as well as the contents of marking, packaging, transportation, and storage, etc. When used in a compounded manner, the quality of ferric pyrophosphate should meet the requirements of this standard.
III. Labeling Standards
"National Food Safety Standard - General Rules for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods" (GB 7718): It stipulates the basic requirements, mandatory labeling contents, and non-mandatory labeling contents of the labels of prepackaged foods, etc. On the labels of products using ferric pyrophosphate in a compounded manner, the name, content, and other information of ferric pyrophosphate, as well as the relevant information of other components in the compound additives, should be truthfully and accurately labeled in accordance with the requirements of GB 7718 to ensure that consumers can clearly understand the ingredient information of the products.
